Product Description

Slow Nitrogen, No Animals — The Plant-Based Feed for Vegan and Organic Gardens

Old Cobblers Farm Wicked Organics Soybean Meal is a single-ingredient, plant-based organic fertilizer: finely ground, de-oiled soybean seeds, with a 7-1-2 analysis. Its nitrogen is bound up in complex soybean proteins, so it doesn't dissolve and rush at the plant — soil microbes break the proteins down over time, releasing the 7% nitrogen gradually. That makes it a steady, long-lasting feed with very low burn risk and minimal leaching, plus modest phosphorus and potassium and trace minerals that make it a touch more rounded than a pure-nitrogen meal.

Its standout feature is what it isn't: there are no animal ingredients in it. For gardeners who keep a vegan garden — or simply prefer not to use blood or feather meal — soybean meal is the plant-based way to deliver slow organic nitrogen to the same heavy-feeding crops: corn, leafy greens, brassicas, lawns, and berries. Like all protein-based feeds, it works through soil biology, so it wants warm, moist, living soil and a thorough watering-in to get the microbes going.

Key Benefits

Plant-based and vegan — No animal ingredients — the plant-based way to deliver slow organic nitrogen, and the natural choice for vegan gardens or anyone avoiding blood and feather meal.

Slow-release nitrogen — Nitrogen bound in soybean proteins releases gradually as soil microbes break it down — steady feeding, very low burn risk, minimal leaching.

Built for heavy feeders — Corn, leafy greens, brassicas, lawns, and berries all draw on the steady 7% nitrogen through their growing stretch.

Feeds soil biology — The protein meal feeds the beneficial microbes that drive nutrient cycling and build soil over time.

Forgiving to use — Gradual mineralization means little risk of burning or shocking plants, even in containers and on tender crops.

A little more than N — Modest phosphorus and potassium plus trace minerals make it a touch more rounded than a single-nutrient feed.

Where to use it: vegetable gardens and heavy feeders (corn, brassicas, leafy greens), lawns and pasture grasses, berries, fruit trees, ornamental shrubs and perennials, containers, and organic soil-building programs.

Application Instructions

-New garden beds: 2.5–5 lbs per 100 sq ft, worked into the top 3 inches
-Transplants: 1–2 tablespoons per planting hole
-Established plants (side-dress): 2–4 oz per plant monthly
-Lawns: 10–20 lbs per 1,000 sq ft; up to 40 lbs per a soil test
-Containers (new): 2–4 tablespoons per gallon of soil
-Containers (established): 1–2 tablespoons per gallon, monthly
Steps:
1. Work it into the soil — beds to the top 3 inches, blended through container mixes, into transplant holes; protein meals feed through soil contact.
2. Water thoroughly after applying to activate the microbial breakdown that releases the nitrogen.
3. Feed once per season for most plantings; every 4–6 weeks (or monthly side-dress) for heavy feeders in active growth.
4. Best results in warm, moist soil — microbial release slows in cold or dry conditions.
When and how often: at planting/bed prep, then once per season or every 4–6 weeks for heavy feeders during active growth.
What NOT to do: do not surface-apply without incorporating, do not expect fast results in cold soil (microbial release is temperature-dependent), and do not over-apply expecting a quick green-up — it's slow by design.

Ingredients

Soybean Meal / De-oiled Ground Soybean (100%)
The single ingredient — finely ground soybean seeds with the oil removed. The nitrogen is held in soybean proteins and released as soil microbes break them down, which is the source of the slow, steady feeding. Plant-based, with no animal ingredients. (Contains soy, a common food allergen — see notes.)
