Slow Nitrogen Plus Calcium, Magnesium and Sulfur. Feeding for Stress and for Herbs
Old Cobblers Farm Wicked Organics 8-3-5 is a higher-analysis organic blend built to do two jobs well: carry turf and landscape plantings through environmental stress, and feed herbs. What sets it apart from a plain NPK feed is the full secondary-nutrient package — guaranteed calcium (3%), magnesium (2.2%), and sulfur (4%) — alongside its 8-3-5. The nitrogen is overwhelmingly slow-release: of the 8% total, 7.2% is water-insoluble nitrogen from feather meal and meat & bone meal, released gradually by soil microbes, so you get a steady green-up with no surge and no burn risk even in hot weather. The 5% potassium, with the calcium, magnesium, and sulfur, is what supports plants through heat, drought, and traffic — potassium and these secondary nutrients are genuine stress-tolerance nutrients, strengthening cell walls and supporting the metabolism plants lean on when conditions are hard.
On turf and sports fields, it's a summer-stress and fall-recovery feed, especially effective applied during or shortly after core aeration and useful ahead of overseeding. On herbs — basil, thyme, parsley, cilantro, mint, lavender, oregano — the same balanced nutrition plus calcium, magnesium, and sulfur supports vigorous, resilient plants. It also suits general landscape beds, ornamentals, and vegetable gardens, particularly heavy feeders during warm weather.
One important note: this blend is made from feather meal, meat & bone meal, and blood meal, so it is firmly not a vegan product, and because of the blood and bone content it can strongly attract dogs and other animals — incorporate it well and store it securely.
Key Benefits
Slow-release, no burn — Of the 8% nitrogen, 7.2% is water-insoluble and released slowly by soil microbes — steady green-up with no surge and no burn, even in summer heat.
Full Ca / Mg / S package — Guaranteed calcium (3%), magnesium (2.2%), and sulfur (4%) strengthen cell walls and support the metabolism plants rely on under stress — nutrition a plain NPK feed doesn't carry.
Built for stress — Potassium plus the secondary nutrients are genuine stress-tolerance nutrients, supporting recovery from heat, drought, and traffic.
Turf and sports fields — A summer-stress and fall-recovery turf feed, especially effective applied during or after core aeration and ahead of overseeding.
Also a herb feed — The balanced nutrition and Ca/Mg/S support vigorous, resilient herbs — basil, thyme, parsley, mint, lavender, oregano, and more.
Broad nutrition — Multiple natural protein-meal inputs supply a broad spectrum of macro- and micronutrients and feed soil biology.
Where to use it: turfgrass and sports fields, summer-stress conditioning and fall recovery, overseeding and renovation, warm-season turf, landscape beds and ornamentals, vegetable gardens, and all culinary and medicinal herbs.
Application Instructions
Application Instructions
-Herb beds/rows: 5–7 lbs per 100 sq ft, mixed into the topsoil before planting
-Herb transplants: 1–2 tablespoons per planting hole
-Established herbs: about 1 tablespoon per plant monthly (up to ¼–½ cup for larger plants every 4–6 weeks)
-Container herbs: 1–2 tablespoons per gallon of soil, mixed thoroughly
-Overseeding: ½–¾ lb N per 1,000 sq ft, about 1 week before
Steps:
1. For turf, broadcast evenly; performance is enhanced applied during or shortly after core aeration.
2. For herb beds, mix into the topsoil before planting; for transplants and containers, mix into the hole or soil.
3. Water in well after application to move nutrients into the root zone and start the microbial release.
4. Feed 2–4 times per growing season — ideal for summer-stress conditioning and fall recovery.
When and how often: 2–4 times per season; for turf, before summer heat and after aeration; for herbs, at planting and every 4–6 weeks.
What NOT to do: do not over-apply the high-analysis rate (it carries more nitrogen than the lighter organic blends — follow the per-1,000-sq-ft N rate), and do not leave it surface-exposed where dogs or wildlife can reach the blood and bone content.
